Our ordinary life is extraordinary!

Who is J. D. Moss?

I was born, graduated from high school, have worked at the same job for 28 years, have loved and lost, all in living my ordinary life. The extraordinary is found in the stories of how these basic facts became tag lines.

Extraordinary Experiences

We all have stories that define us. My birth and life were not easy. I almost died when I was a baby.  I lived, yet the damage to my body affected my eyesight, speech, and learning ability. My parents were told I would never graduate from high school, yet I did and the stories on my struggles and the mountains I climbed are both heartbreaking and inspiring. My goal is to share these experiences with you. Some have been written as non-fiction short stories others are written as fiction, yet they all are designed to add depth to the facts, awareness of the struggles we all face, and to open conversations so that others will know they are not alone.

I started writing in journals as a teenager in order to express the emotions, fears and thoughts I felt I could not share with others. This was followed by writing lyrics and poetry, my first attempt to reach out for help as thoughts of suicide became my constant companion. Some of those were published including the award winning “Father’s Love” and later the lyrics “Nowhere” were recorded by Peter Conover.

After High School I wrote sporadically until taking some college classes inspired me to live my passion and write on a regular basis.

I have been published in: The Texas Observer, The Rio Review, The Texas Triangle, I’m From Driftwood, the Centex-Motion, and have had monologues preformed in “Into The West.”

My Core Values

Values are important, yet one day I realized that most of us don’t write down our personal values like a company does and that may mean we do not spend as much time thinking about or even understanding which values are the most important to us. When a major event happens in our lives, are we prepared to live up to our own core values? What if two values come into conflict? When life hit me with a critical test of character it made me truly examine what I felt was essential so I have listed my top five values. I do not mind sharing them because I may not want to live my life by someone else’s standards, yet I am happy to be held responsible for my own.
